Chemise, negligee and babydoll - it's not just nightwear!
With a chemise, negligee or babydoll, you are ready to seduce him at bedtime. It's a little masked under the name nightwear, but you don't wear it to get into bed and sleep. It is more lingerie than nightwear. It's the kind you surprise him in when he's ready to jump under the covers for you.
The chemise didn't start out straight as nightwear!
A chemise has had a long way to go before it ended up in the lingerie drawer as something naughty. Originally, it was a petticoat that had the task of protecting the expensive corsages and corsets from dirt. From there it has been made more and more refined and as a corsage became cheaper and cheaper, until they completely disappeared in everyday life. It became more of just a lingerie dress. They come in many varieties, some short and others long. There are models that fit tightly and others a little looser. The material can also fluctuate quite a bit. However, what they have in common is that they are a kind of petticoat or nightgown that has been refined and ended up as a lingerie dress.
Negligee, the extra fine and transparent lingerie dress
A negligee is, as most have probably guessed, a word from the French. The term in French is also known as "déshabillé" which is described as a transparent piece of clothing. A negligee was originally a longer nightgown that was made of fine tulle or other material you could easily see through. Over time, however, it has increasingly been made in materials such as satin and silk. Thus it lost a bit of its transparency. It has also become a little shorter over time. Therefore, there is no longer a long distance between a chemise and a negligee. With others it is difficult to separate them at times.
Babydoll is a derivation from the classic negligee
The babydoll nightgown came on the market in the 40s. Its new A shape was partly taken from the dresses little girls wore, where the dress did not go in at the waist, but instead laced up just below the bust. Thus, the waist was hidden a little and the chest was highlighted. It often had a little pleating or several layers of tulle from the chest down, which made it look light. It was mostly always short, and stopped at the thigh.
Not much has changed since then. It still has an accentuated bust and an A shape with a high cut under the bust and is generally always made in delicate and filigree material. Many of the models are also made with a bow on the front so that it can be opened like a jacket. Here you can wear a bra set underneath it, or just be completely natural. It is incredibly feminine to dress in a babydoll and it is probably more lingerie today than nightwear.
